Come Grammy time for the past few years, we’ve been sitting down a few local award nominees to wax philosophical about what it takes to reach their vaunted place. In a sense, a Grammy nod singles those folks out as the best of their breed, and it’s not every day, we figure, that you get to peer directly into the mindset and process that leads to that degree of musical achievement.
Taking influence from Esquire magazine’s “What I’ve Learned” features, which regularly and quite succinctly outline truths from some very learned people, some Middle Tennessee Grammy nominees’ truths follow. Consider them a Cliffs Notes musical apprenticeship of sorts — a little food for thought from folks who’ve found a fruitful path.
