Keith Urban Goes Down Under with Oprah

Oprah is taking her show to Australia, and she’s bringing Keith Urban with her.

The successful daytime talk show host is filming her show in Australia with several natives including Urban, Hugh Jackman, Cate Blanchett and Naomi Watts. Rumor has it Urban's wife and fellow Australian Nicole Kidman will make an appearance as well. This will mark the first time Oprah has ever filmed her show outside of the U.S.

Urban will film his episode in the Sydney Opera House on Dec. 14. Before that, you can catch him performing at half-time during the Dallas Cowboys vs. New Orleans Saints Thanksgiving Day game.

Keith Announces 2011 Tour Dates

This Monday, Keith Urban announced the 44 tour dates and cities for his 2011 Get Closer World Tour. The tour will kick off in Mobile, Ala., on June 16.

"Playing live is what it's always been about for me," Urban said. "It's creating in the moment. It's the joy, the electricity, the unexpected, the passion and the unknown journey that we're all taking together. I've always felt that the best live concert experiences tap into a deep need in all of us to feel a part of something ... to belong. I'm bringing the big boom box and an arsenal of songs, and I can't wait to throw this party!"
The tour will be stopping in several major cities, including Chicago, Cincinnati, Dallas, Cleveland, Atlanta, Denver, Milwaukee, Seattle, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Minneapolis and Washington, D.C. Opening acts will be announced at a later date, and ticket sales are scheduled to begin in February. For more information, visit www.keithurban.net.
Just last week, Urban released his Get Closer album, which contains his newest single, “Put You in a Song.” Urban’s previous five albums have been certified platinum or multi-platinum.

Keith Urban will make national television visits next week in support of his new album, Get Closer, set to be released Nov. 16. Urban will appear on ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC television networks.

Urban will perform on the Today show on Wednesday, Nov. 17. He'll also appear on The Early Show on CBS on Nov. 18, and on that same day, Urban will tape his performance on The Oprah Winfrey Show. Urban's appearance will air later this month.
Urban will also perform at halftime on FOX's Thanksgiving Day football game between the Dallas Cowboys and the New Orleans Saints.

Today Nov 16, Keith Urbanl released his new CD, Get Closer. While a few songs have already been released to iTunes, the good people at npr music have the entire record available for a first listen. Well, the 8-track non-Target retail version anyway.

Just under a month away from the release of Keith Urban's new album, Get Closer, the full track listing has a few people up in arms judging by some of the e-mails I have received recently. Some fans are not pleased about being forced to buy the new disc at Target stores. No one is being literally forced, of course, but what do you do when an artist releases a new album with only 8 tracks and then offers a "deluxe" 11-track version exclusively through Target? I have to say, I see their point and agree it seems kind of, well, silly. And I'm not even going to comment on the irony of one of the extra tracks being titled 'Big Promises.'

In an interview with Billboard, Keith even admitted that non-Target cutomers aren't getting a complete album. He said: "In some ways it's all just one record, but one is a shorter version while the Target version is the full album. If people get the shorter version and love it, maybe they'll want to hear some more songs."

If you're a Keith Urban fan with plans to buy the new album, what do you think about all this?

But back to the actual music. As Nashville Country Club reported, for Keith, this album is the logical follow-up to his previous record. He said:

"On Defying Gravity I started touching upon the theme of the courage to love. It’s all well and good to say, 'I can’t find anybody to love, I wish I could find someone to love.' But do I have the courage to love? Am I willing to open my heart and give the sword to my partner and go, 'All right, I trust you, absolutely and completely?' For me the title is multi-faceted because my instincts have always been to run from the things that are good for me, to run from love. I have always run from intimacy, and marriage has been a real awakening for me in looking at that very differently. That’s what the title refers to."

Sounds to me like plenty of inspiration for some good, honest songs!

Keith Urban got on Skype earlier this afternoon to talk with CNN's Rick Sanchez about the Nashville flood. Sanchez seemed more interested in talking about Urban's own equipment losses (at the flooded Soundcheck rehearsal studios), but Urban was quick to counter that there are much bigger problems in the area.

“I went through this in Australia in 1974," he said. I was very young, but we had this kind of 100-year flood in my city, and it’s just unfathomable. As someone said this morning, you know, when you see it in other places, like we saw in New Orleans, you feel for these people, but you don’t get a sense of what it’s like until it happens to your own city.”

John Mayer and Keith Urban are the first artists to make a return to CMT Crossroads in the newest episode of the CMT hit series. CMT Crossroads: John Mayer and Keith Urban taped before an invitation only audience in Nashville and premieres Friday, June 18 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on CMT.

Taking the stage in front of what I can only imagine is a record breaking Crossroads crowd, the duo performed Keith’s hits including “If Ever Could I Love”, “’Til Summer Comes Around” and the up-tempo “Sweet Thing”. John Mayer brings well-known songs “Perfectly Lonely” and “Gravity” to the show, and the two conclude their performance with a cover of the ever-so-popular “Faith” by George Michael.

Keith Urban and John Mayer are no strangers to the CMT Crossroads stage. Keith and John Fogerty were featured in a 2005 episode and John and Brad Paisley were featured May 2004 episode. The collaboration of Mayer and Urban will mark the first time artists will come back to the CMT Crossroads stage since the series’ launch in January of 2002.

We were lucky enough to attend this taping, and I think this could be the BEST CMT Crossroads yet. THIS IS A MUST SEE CMT CROSSROADS!!

I went back into the Rodeo to watch the rest of it.I went into my chute seats and down to where all the food was. Had a snack and something to drink whill watching the Rodeo and waiting to go down a bit closer to watch Keith performe.

It was almost time for Keith to come out. The rolled the revolving stage onto the field and put robes around where we could stand.Than they escorted us onto the fiend. I grabed a chair and made a run for a spot on ther field in the front row.

Keith and the Band come on by coming into the stadium ina Black truck.Keith said Jerry couldn't be here tonight. so his studio player is filling in for him tonight. Nutter was there Chris was there playin drums as normal. and than there was a new guy in the band and one person was missing. and that was Brad Rice.Don't know if he is gone like Chris Rod but he wasen't there at the Rodeo. Keith Did you look good in my Shirt on the field going around the field touching everyones hands that were in the front row. At the end he did better lief. Because Chris Rod isen't with him anymore Brian is taking over. He thanked everybody for coming tonight. OMG I can't believe it. I just got a email saying I won a Meet & Greet in Houston TX for the Houston Rodeo & Live Stock on Oct 15th. This will be my 3rd time meeting keith urban.First time was in Charlotte nc on June 18th 2009. Second time was in Nashville Tnn at the verizion wirless store.and now on Oct 16th 2010.

Well today is the day that I Meet Keith Urban. OMG I am so nervious. I can't think about anything else. What will I say to him.What will I wear. Is my hair going to look good. OMG this is the day I have been waiting all week for. It has been a very looooooong week just waiting.
5:00pm I just picked up my Meet & Greet pass to Meet Keith Urban. I have to be back at 8:15 to go into the Meet & Greet. OMG that is such a long time. What will I do till then.I guess I will go in and watch some of the Rodeo.I am looking at the watch every 5 seconds and it is only 5:05, and I have till 8:15 till I have to go back for the Meet & Greet. This is my 3rd time Meeting Keith and I am more nervious that I was the first time I met him.

He said wow you've been around.And I asked him if he got the DVD I made for him. I discribed it. He said it is on the Bus. Than I had my picture taken with him with my Camera after the picture was taken I told the guy to take another, so he did. Than it was time for the next person.
OMG I can't believe it. I just met keith. He is so nice and good looking.and he smells so good. I'm not going to wash my shirt for a long time.the smell of his coloan is on my shirt I am shaking llike a leaf because I just met keith urban. You wouldn't think I would do that after.But you know me I'm backwards.

Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban Chill at Grammy Backstage

Nicole Kidman couldn’t have looked better or had a nicer time at the 52nd annual Grammy Awards.

The Oscar-winning actress is also Mrs. Keith Urban, wife of the very much about to be country music — and maybe pop music — superstar. In the private club backstage at the Staples Center, known as the Chairman’s Room, Nicole and Keith met and mingled with other stars and music execs, dined on buffet short ribs and plates of dessert and fruit.

“It’s so nice to hang out this way,” Nicole said, as she chatted with CBS’ Les Moonves and Julie Chen. She and Keith met Frank DiLeo, Michael Jackson’s famed manager. They talked about music and kids. Nicole is back to being a redhead. She also looked phenomenal. For all the wags who’ve complained that she’s been overly Botoxed or something, I am happy to tell you: Nicole looked just like Nicole Kidman, just beautiful. And she ate like a regular gal.

“You’ve got to try this beef,” she told me, while sampling from a plate. “It’s delicious.”

Nicole also told me there’s a chance she won’t be at the Academy Awards on March 7. “It’s my mom’s 70th birthday, so we may be with her. We love mom!” And yes, Kidman’s mother is one of the nicest people we’ve ever met at premieres or red carpets, so it’s understandable. Nicole also talked about her kids, all three of them, and Keith. “Can you tell him how good you think he is,” Kidman asked. “I’m always telling him.”

I’ll tell you about Keith Urban. He’s a rising superstar. Like Rob Thomas, John Mayer, John Legend and a few others, he’s in the next generation of rock stars. He’s also incredibly humble and devoted to Kidman. He doesn’t know I saw this, but while we were talking and eating, and while Nicole had gone to fetch a plate of desserts, a woman came up and tried hitting on Urban very aggressively.

“Can’t I do that?” she said. It was so rock-and-roll.

Urban stood from the stool he’d been sitting on, and went cold.

“No you may not,” he declared, upbraiding the stranger. “I am married!”

He’s a keeper.

Grammy Award predictions

I did it last year, so, why not try it again this year — here are my predictions for all 109 categories of this years Grammy Awards.

The event will be on television on CBS on Sunday night at 8 p.m.

Here are my hopes and predictions (and, like last year, I recommend getting a snack before you jump into this list.):

Record Of The Year — My fingers are crossed that Lady Gaga will not win this one… I’m guessing that Taylor Swift is gonna walk away the winner, but for the hell of it, I’m going to predict Kings of Leon.

Album Of The Year — Beyonce and Lady Gaga (unfortunately) have a good shot at this one. DMB has a great story behind it, but I’m going to go with Taylor Swift again.

Song Of The Year — “Poker Face” stuck in the heads of a lot of people, but not for a good reason… mostly because it’s just plain annoying. I can’t imagine Taylor Swift winning the three big ones — but she make take this and lose one of the others. Again, I’d love to see Kings of Leon win it, but I’m gonna guess Beyonce’s repetitive “Single Ladies” will be the winner. Ugh.

Best New Artist — The Ting Tings are one-hit wonders so far, MGMT doesn’t have enough of a mainstream audience yet… Silversun Pickups are a possibility, but I”d weigh heavy on Zac Brown Band for their crossover appeal.

Best Female Pop Vocal Performance — This one’s gonna be a battle between Beyonce and Taylor Swift. If someone beats them, I’d be shocked. I’ll put my money on Swift.

Best Male Pop Vocal Performance — I’d like to see John Legend take it, or even Stevie Wonder, but I’d guess Maxwell is gonna take this one home.

Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals — Bon Jovi has an outside chance here, but, since it’s all over the airwaves, I gotta think that Black Eyed Peas are winning here. “Tonight’s the night…”

Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals — Another tough category. I’m going with the popularity vote and guessing Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat.

Best Pop Instrumental Performance — He seems to be a favorite at the Grammys, so I’ll go with Béla Fleck.

Best Pop Instrumental Album — Chris Botti has a whole bunch of guest stars on the album… that has to weigh in his favor.

That’s only 10 categories… I hope you have a comfortable chair.

Best Pop Vocal Album — I’d actually like to see Pink win here, but I’m guessing it’s going to be the Black Eyed Peas.

Best Dance Recording — I hate to think that she’s going to win any Grammys at all, but it’s hard to deny that there are a lot of people that like her. I sure as hell hope it’s not Britney Spears… and while I’d pick Black Eyed Peas or Madonna, I’ll say there’s a good chance Lady Gaga is gonna win this one. (After reading the category below, I’m going to change to Black Eyed Peas.)

Best Electronic/Dance Album — Damn… I think Lady Gaga may win this one, too. I’ll change my vote above.

Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album — I wouldn’t call Willie Nelson pop or traditional. It would be cool to see Tony Bennett win, but I’ll go with Harry Connick, Jr. Bublé is good, but he’s kind of a “poor man’s Harry Connick, Jr.”

Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance — We all know Bob Dylan doesn’t have the best vocals… Neil Young or John Fogerty would be nice, but I’ll go with The Boss.

Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals — Tough choices here. Coldplay has had their time… Clapton and Winwood are playing an old song… Green Day is a good bet, but I’m going with Kings of Leon.

Best Hard Rock Performance — I don’t think AC/DC’s new album is their best, Alice in Chains is good but not the best here, Linkin Park didn’t have a new album last year, so they should even be in the category. Nickelback? Um, no. I’m going with Metallica.

Best Metal Performance — I would love for Ministry to win, but it seems like everyone loves Lamb of God.

Best Rock Instrumental Performance — Steve Vai and Jeff Beck are both amazing guitarists. I think Booker T. Jones may surprise with a win here.

Best Rock Song — Kings of Leon’s not going home empty-handed, so they could win this if they lose out on others… Assuming they win a bigger category, I’m thinking Green Day will get the nod here.

Best Rock Album — The death of LeRoi Moore could have crushed DMB — instead, they came back with one of their strongest albums ever. I’d love to see them get some recognition, but I’m guessing U2 may walk away with it… even though that “get your boots on” song is complete crap.

Best Alternative Music Album — Phoenix is probably the odds-on favorite, but I’m hoping Yeah Yeah Yeahs are gonna win.

Best Female R&B Vocal Performance — None of them have a prayer against Beyonce.

Best Male R&B Vocal Performance — I’d love to see Charlotte’s Anthony Hamilton take it home, but I don’t think it’s gonna happen. Welcome back, Maxwell.

Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals — I sure as hell hope T-Pain doesn’t win. I’d love to see Robert Randolph win. I’m guessing that it will go to India.Arie & Musiq Soulchild.

1/4th of the way through – tired yet? Maybe you should take a nap before continuing…

Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance — She sang it for the President, so I’m guessing “At Last” by Beyonce will take home the gold.

Best Urban/Alternative Performance — For some reason, I want to go with the Foreign Exchange on this one. No reason…

Best R&B Song — Oh, that frickin’ “Single Ladies” will probably win again… Just for spite, I’m going to go with James Brown.

Best R&B Album — India.Arie’s got a good shot, but I’m guessing Maxwell will get another “welcome back” prize.

Best Contemporary R&B Album — If T-Pain wins, I’m going to lose all my faith that the Grammys still mean something. However, I’m guessing Beyonce will win again.

Best Rap Solo Performance — Eminem has a chance and Kid Cudi is the big underdog with a shot, but I’ll guess Jay-Z.

Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group — There may be some lingering Kanye West backlash, and I’d love for Beastie Boys to win, but I’m guessing Eminem, Dr. Dre & 50 Cent are taking this one home.

Best Rap/Sung Collaboration — It would be hilarious if “I’m on a Boat” won, but I’d say “Run This Town” is the favorite to win.

Best Rap Song — I’m going with “Run This Town” again.

Best Rap Album — Interesting choices – I’m surprised Jay-Z isn’t on here. I don’t think it’ll be Common or Eminem… I’d say Q-Tip and Flo Rida might have a chance, but Mos Def is taking it home.

Best Female Country Vocal Performance — Carrie Underwood might have a shot, but it’s gonna be Taylor Swift’s night.

Best Male Country Vocal Performance — Uhhh… I don’t know any of these songs. George Strait is a possibility, but I’m picking Mr. Nicole Kidman. I mean, Keith Urban.

Best Country Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals — It’s their last year, so it would be nice for Brooks & Dunn to win, but I think Zac Brown Band might surprise some people and win it. Lady Antebellum has a shot, too. Ooh… so does Sugarland. I’ll stick with Zac Brown Band.

Best Country Collaboration With Vocals — A lot of big names in this one, but Kenny Chesney and Mac McAnally are two of the bigger ones. It’s a tough call though.

Best Country Instrumental Performance — I’m going with The Greencards.

Best Country Song — Best and Country – it’s kind of like an oxymoron, isn’t it? Anyway… Taylor Swift is likely, but I’m going with “I Run to You” by Lady Antebellum.

Best Country Album — Don’t think there’s much of a chance that Taylor Swift won’t win this one, unless Zac Brown Band pulls the huge upset.

Now it starts getting tougher to choose…

Best New Age Album — I’m not familiar with any of them, but “Laserium for the Soul” has a pretty new-age-y title.

Best Contemporary Jazz Album — Urbanus is on a label that has jazz (Concord Jazz) in the title – I’m going with that one.

Best Jazz Vocal Album — I wish they made a five-sided coin so I can flip for it. I’m going with Luciana Souza.

Best Improvised Jazz Solo — I like the name “Dancin’ 4 Chicken.”

Best Jazz Instrumental Album, Individual or Group — I saw him at Bonnaroo, so I’m going with Allen Toussaint.

Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album — They’ve got a team in the Super Bowl, so I’m going with the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra’s Book One.

Best Latin Jazz Album — The name made me chuckle — Brazilliance x 4.

Ah, category number 50… were’ just under halfway through.

Best Gospel Performance — Jonny Lang is a possibility, but you’d think you need Jesus or God in the title. I’m going with “Jesus is Love.”

Best Gospel Song — For the same reason as above, I’m going with “God in Me.”

Best Rock Or Rap Gospel Album — No one fits the above requirements… I’ll go with Third Day’s Live Revelations.

Who knew there was so much gospel?

Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album — Jars of Clay is a popular one…. Mandisa was on American Idol, but Israel Houghton has “Israel” right in his name! “The Power of One” is my guess.

Best Southern, Country, Or Bluegrass Gospel Album — I really have no clue here. Tracy Lawrence has kind of a country sound to it…

We’re just hitting the half-way mark and these sure as hell aren’t getting any easier. I’d get up and stretch for a moment…

Best Traditional Gospel Album — Seriously? More gospel? The Law of Confession, Part I…

Best Contemporary R&B Gospel Album — With a name like Smokie Norful, he has to be good…

Best Latin Pop Album — Sometimes it’s good to go with the familiar, so I’m picking Paulina Rubio.

Best Latin Rock, Alternative Or Urban Album — Again, familiar. Los Fabulosos Cadillacs.

Best Tropical Latin Album — I actually heard Tiempo Libre’s Bach in Havana and thought it was a good album.

Best Regional Mexican Album — There’s something cute about Mariachi Divas… so I’ll pick 10 Aniversario.

Best Tejano Album — Again, you have to go with the name that gets attention. I’m picking Borders Y Bailes by Los Texmaniacs.

Best Norteño Album — Last year, I picked Los Tigres del Norte and they won… If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Best Banda Album — I’ll go with the one artist that doesn’t have “Banda” in its name — Lupillo Rivera.

Best Americana Album — Willie and The Wheel is a great album, but I’d love to see Levon Helm win it for Electric Dirt.

Best Bluegrass Album — I’d have to guess that Steve Martin will take this one home for The Crow.

Much like the speed limit, we just flew past 65… let’s keep going!

Best Traditional Blues Album — We need a good bluesy name… Ramblin’ Jack Elliott sounds good.

Best Contemporary Blues Album — Wow, Susan Tedeschi and her husband Derek Trucks are both in the same category. Maybe it’ll be like an election and those two will cancel each other out, leaving Robert Cray Band to walk away the winner.

Best Traditional Folk Album — Of course, I like the name Naked with Friends, but Polka Cola: Music that Refreshes has a lot more humor in it.

Best Contemporary Folk Album — I’m hoping Neko Case will take this one home.

Best Hawaiian Music Album — You’d go with Don Ho in the old days, so why not go with Daniel Ho here? I’ll go with him and Tia Carrere for He Nani.

Best Native American Music Album — I like the sound of Johnny Whitehorse and Riders of the Healing Road.

Best Zydeco Or Cajun Music Album — Give it to Buckwheat Zydeco… although Beausoleil could win it.

Best Reggae Album — I’d guess one of the Marley’s will win it. Let’s go with Stephen over Julian.

Best Traditional World Music Album — Mamadou Diabate sounds like a worldly band name… Douga Mansa wins it.

Best Contemporary World Music Album — I’m going with Femi Kuti’s Day By Day over the popular Béla Fleck.

Best Musical Album For Children — My 4-year-old nephew loves Bob Marley. I’m going with Ziggy Marley’s Family Time.

Come Grammy time for the past few years, we’ve been sitting down a few local award nominees to wax philosophical about what it takes to reach their vaunted place. In a sense, a Grammy nod singles those folks out as the best of their breed, and it’s not every day, we figure, that you get to peer directly into the mindset and process that leads to that degree of musical achievement.

Taking influence from Esquire magazine’s “What I’ve Learned” features, which regularly and quite succinctly outline truths from some very learned people, some Middle Tennessee Grammy nominees’ truths follow. Consider them a Cliffs Notes musical apprenticeship of sorts — a little food for thought from folks who’ve found a fruitful path.

Awards season is always an exciting time of year. It is especially special when country music is blended in with other genres of music. It used to be that country music was the under dog. NOT ANYMORE! Country music has come out swinging with hot talent like Taylor Swift, Gloriana, and Jamey Johnson. That is just to name a few.

Tonight Taylor Swift has three People’s Choice nominations heading into tonight’s awards, for country artist, female artist and pop artist. Carrie Underwood has two nominations; country artist and female artist. Keith Urban is another country singer with two nominations. His are for country artist and male artist. Other country artists up with one nomination apiece are: Brad Paisley, Tim McGraw and Rascal Flatts.

The People’s Choice Awards are tonight on CBS.

Also a four-time Grammy nominee, Keith's up for two awards including Favorite County Artist and the all-genre Favorite Male Artist. A win on Wednesday would be especially satisfying for Keith, because the award is voted on exclusively by the fans.   

Prior to the holidays, Keith completed his “Escape Together World Tour,” with a series of sold-out performances in Australia, which were critically hailed by the Australian media. It marked the first time that Keith was able to bring his own staging and lighting to all of the arenas at which he appeared.

At the end of eight months touring, some rockers might lose the passion for the stage.

But there was no shortage of enthusiasm, intensity and energy when Keith Urban rocked Brisbane on Friday night.
Perhaps it was because the boy from Caboolture was thrilled to back in his home state, no doubt playing for some of the same crowd who cheered him on at gigs around the South East before the big time came his way.

"We've come a long way since the Normanby Hotel," Keith told fans at the first of his two Brisbane shows. And so he has.Since leaving Australia for the USA in the early 90s, country-rock musician Keith has five mega-successful studio albums behind him and collection of Grammy wins and nominations. He calls Nashville home now, but Queensland still holds many memories for this super star.
When he looked around at the crowd and said "It's so nice to be back" you could tell he actually meant it.
Just as he meant it when he kicked off the show by belting out crowd favourite Days Go By and then settling down into a slower-paced Stupid Boy.
There was no going-with-the-motions feel to his performance, despite last night's show being the second-last in Keith's North American and Australian Escape Together tour.
And the fans - from mums and dads, nannas and screaming teenagers - were giving Keith just as much as he and his band was giving us.
Singing along to every word, Keith's male and female worshippers were up out of their seats in no time when Keith explained his concert was not one suited to a calm, civil audience.
"We beg of you to be as unruly and out of control as you can," he urged.
"Security - you just let them do whatever they want."
And some of the ladies in glittery tops and high heels certainly tried to when checkered-shirt-clad Keith made for the crowd, albiet with a few beefcake minders in tow, to take his guitar to a tiny stage in the centre of the audience where he proclaimed "Who's got the good seats now?"
The hero of the night then took a seat on a stool for a love-dedication ballad with love song Making Memories of Us, dedicated to wife Nicole Kidman.
"She couldn't be here tonight .. this is for you, baby girl," he crooned, smashing the hearts of women all around us.But Keith picked those hearts right back up with a strut through the crowd with his sparkly-strapped guitar.
He didn't just walk straight back to the stage, he did the rounds giving some a chance to pat him on the back or reach out to touch that bouncy, floppy do.I'm sure there were 20-something girls squealing "I just touched Keith Urban" as he made his way past and may or not be refusing to wash whatever part of their body that came into contact.The point of the night was, it wasn't just about Keith, it was about the fans who just kept getting treated to the power and energy of this local boy playing in his home town.
Speaking of local musos, the crowd was treated to a couple of tunes from Pete Murray who walked out on stage half-way through the gig.The pair sang Neil Young's Comes a Time, with Pete on the harmonica, then the pair shared lyrics to Murray's Opportunity before it was back to what the punters came to see.
Keith steamed into the last numbers of his set with Kiss A Girl, Somebody Like You and You'll Think Of Me - taking a another dash into the audience where he stood on someone's seat and strummed along up close and personal with his admirers.
The Australian leg began in Melbourne earlier this month and included concerts in Wollongong and Sydney.

While on tour in Australia, Keith Urban got in the spirit of the season. When he visited a music store in Brisbane, he noticed a teenager trying out an expensive pedal. Keith secretly paid for the item, much to the shock of both the store owner and the young guitar player.

Store owner Tym Brennan told Australia's ABC Radio "I look up and there's Keith Urban and his band, which was quite a shock obviously. He spent about half an hour in the shop trying out guitars, and there was a kid sitting there trying out a fuzz pedal, which is an effect you get for a guitar. Keith came back down the counter and was chatting away and had picked out a guitar he liked. He had heard the kid trying out the pedal for some time and he just leaned over and whispered, 'How much is the pedal that kid's looking at?' "I said, 'It's $450, it's not a cheap one', and he just whispered, 'Put it on my card.' Obviously I was quite shocked.

"I said, 'Do you want me to tell him?', and he said, 'No, wait 'til I leave.'"

Before leaving the store, Keith shook the teen's hand and said "Merry Christmas".

Mr Brennan then told the young guitar player that Keith had bought him the pedal. "He looked at me several times blankly and sort of turned a bit white," Mr Brennan told ABC. "After he settled down a bit he rang his dad on his mobile and said that Keith Urban had just bought him a Christmas present."

Giving without even wanting a thank you in return is true giving.

Keith Is Grateful To His Fans

On February 8th, 2009, Keith appeared in two performances on the Grammys; one alongside B.B. King, Buddy Guy and John Mayer for a Tribute to Bo Diddley and the other, a last-minute performance of “Lets Stay Together,” with Justin Timberlake, Al Green and Boyz II Men. It would prove to be an auspicious start to a 2009 filled with career accomplishments, which says Keith, “he will never forget.”

March 31st, Defying Gravity is released just after the CD’s first single “Sweet Thing” becomes Keith’s 10th #1. The CD would hit the top spot, on April 8th, on both Billboard’s Country and Top 200 All-Genre Album Charts, marking a career first for him. The second single released, “Kiss A Girl” would become his 20th Top 5 and later in the year, just this past November, “Only You Could Love Me This Way,” would become his 11th #1.

On May 7th, Keith’s Escape Together World Tour launches with two sold-out performances in Uncasville, Connecticut. It would go on to play more than 60 shows before packed houses including sell-outs at Los Angeles’ Staples Center, Nashville’s Sommet Center, throughout Canada and in Australia. The tour becomes a unanimous choice as one of the years best. It closes in Buffalo on October 9th following another sell-out at New York City’s Madison Square Garden.

“My one goal for this tour was to achieve maximum connection with the audience,” said Keith. “By lowering the stage, removing all security barriers and creating alternate stages within the area, I wanted to create an atmosphere of total unity, but the level of energy from the crowd night after night was beyond anything I could have hoped for.”

On April 5th he performed during and won his fifth Academy of Country Music Award and on May 20th he appeared on the American Idol finale, performing his Top 5 hit “Kiss A Girl,” with the eventual American Idol winner, Kris Allen. He was named a Top 10 Mobile Artist by Billboard Magazine, and had “Stupid Boy,” “Tonight I Wanna Cry” and “Sweet Thing” certified Digital Gold.

October 13th will certainly be a hard one to top (even though he will try again in 2010). At Nashville’s Sommet Center, Keith, along with Vince Gill, hosted “We’re All For The Hall Benefit Concert,” which starred Urban and Gill and special guests Taylor Swift, Brad Paisley, Faith Hill, Lady Antebellum, Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley and Little Big Town. The benefit would raise nearly $600,000 for The Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum and earn Keith a nomination for “Tennessean of the Year.”

Museum Director Kyle Young would say of the concert, “It set a new standard for fundraising and brought together an entire community. It helped us to see just what can be done by individuals with a collective passion for a cause.”

Keith’s year was topped off in November with another CMA trophy, his sixth, his first American Music Award for Best Male Country Artist, four Grammy Award nominations, two People’s Choice Award nominations, a rousing performance to open the Aria Awards in Australia, as well as four nominations for the 2010 Australian Country Music Awards.

In fact, just this past week his 2002 #1 hit, “Somebody Like You," was ranked as the #1 Country Song of the Decade by Nielsen BDS (based on radio airplay and audience impressions). In addition, Keith was named the most played country artist (at radio) for 2009.

KEITH OPENS HIS “ESCAPE TOGETHER WORLD TOUR” DATES IN AUSTRALIA

Keith arrived at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne two nights ago after a two-month break from touring. He rehearsed with his band and then greeted nearly 50 members of the Australian media. He performed a few songs from his “Escape Together World Tour” for them and then answered questions on a range of topics including his return to Australia, his four Grammy Award nominations, the tour and his plans for the holidays.

As one journalist put it, “I don’t know of any other artist that would do something like this for us, no less on the day of his first show here. It was incredibly gracious.” A few hours later, he hit the stage, before a sold-out crowd of nearly 12,000.

And Keith couldn’t be happier. “I’m most excited about being able to bring our whole show down here. We don’t usually have the time to do that, but this time we had about two months in between and it was enough time to put all of this equipment on boats and ship it over. It feels really good to do that because we’ve had this production since May of this year and we’ve done a lot of shows on this stage, so there’ll be a good familiar feeling being up here playing.”

Shopping in a DIY store is probably one of the most unlikely places you would expect to see a top Hollywood actress such as Nicole Kidman.
And you would be even more amazed to see her pushing her own trolley around.
But that’s exactly the sight shoppers at Los Angeles’s The Home Depot – the American equivalent of B&Q – were greeted by as the multimillionaire stocked up on Christmas decorations with her husband Keith Urban.

Kidman piled her trolley high with baubles and festive knickknacks as country singer Urban was responsible for the all-important duty of carrying the shopping list.

The Australian couple, both 42, were seen laughing and joking in the store on Friday as they strolled up and down the aisles.

Keith Urban performed today, Dec. 1, 2009, at BMI's No. 1 party for “Only You Can Love Me This Way.”

Keith Urban didn’t let a tight schedule keep him from celebrating his 11th No. 1 song today. The singer flew in from Los Angeles just before his No. 1 party at BMI in honor of his latest chart topper “Only You Can Love Me This Way.”

But he couldn’t stay long: He had to hop back on a plane about two hours later and head back to Los Angeles.

“A No. 1 is an important moment, and I’ve been fortunate enough to have a few but it doesn’t diminish the excitement you feel,” Urban said before the party. “As a songwriter that’s equally (true).”

The song is one of the three on Urban’s Defying Gravity CD that he didn’t have a hand in writing, but the singer thought it was still important to be at the party in support of those who did: Steve McEwan and John Reid. Reid was unable to attend the party as he was reported to be on his way to Thailand.

“It’s important for this town that is so steeped in history of amazing songwriters that the song should be honored, and for me I’m coming to honor Steve and John and the magic that is songwriting,” he said.

Urban said he chose to record “Only You Can Love Me This Way” for its “fluidity,” the way it paralleled his own life, and the opening guitar riff — which he openly admits he wishes he had written.

“For me it’s about being authentic,” Urban said. “I can’t sing something I don’t believe in. And this song … just fit. I just sang it about my wife (Nicole Kidman). It’s really that simple. This marked the second year in row that Keith appeared on the Arias, last year’s being alongside The John Butler Trio, where Keith and the band played the hit “Get Funky Tonight.”

“It felt amazing to be back in Australia opening the Arias,” said Keith. “I loved being able to hear so much new music and catch up with old friends - and what a great way to kick off our return tour to Oz in December. I’m especially looking forward to the fact that we’re touring here (Australia) with the exact staging and production that we’ve had on the road all this year in the U.S and Canada.”

When 9:00am stuck I hit the road for the door.When I was buying the phone.I told the sales girl that she will be pulling my name out of that hat cause I am a BIG fan, and a member of the Keith Urban fan club.She said maybe you never know. Ouside they did games to win things and they were giving away not 1 put 2 Meet & Greets one for you & 1 for a friend.They did alot of them but I didn't win.The only think I did was win a shirt with the radio station's name on it & 2 verizion water Bottels.Who wants a Shirt & a Water Bottel I want to meet Keith Urban. They did games all day.Than it came time to announce the winners for a Meet & Greet. Theese people are the ones who signed up for a new phone from Verizion. And OMG my name was drew. I couldn’t believe it I was going to meet Keith Urban again my 2nd time in 1 year. The last time I met Keith was on June 18th.2009.Then 2 more names were drawn from the hat, and they were monkeys. Most of my Monkey friends names were drawn. I was so happy we all could get a Meet & Greet together. Than we were given directions how the Meet & Greet works from Verizion. We couldn’t take our own pictures,cause they would do that and we would be given the picture after the show. There would be no autographs we would be given a autographed poster. And if we had a gift we were to give it to the other lady & she would give it to Keith.And we were to pick a partner & we would go in groups of 2. It is 1:30pm. And it is time to go in & meet Keith. OMG did I just say it was time to go in & meet Keith? OMG I think I did. I am so nervious.I wasen’t this nervious the first time I met him. Everybody went into Meet Keith. They talked to him & had there picture taken. My group was the last to go in. He gave me a Hug. I told him I came from Charlotte NC to go to the opry.He thanked me for coming all this way & said you going to the Opry I’m going to LOL he’s going to be performing at the Opry.Than it was time To have our picture taken. He put his arm on my shoulder I put my hand ontop of his hand & he grabed my hand & held it.I put my arm around him & the picture was taken. Than everybody was escorted outside to watch the show. Keith Took the stage & thanked everybody for coming. He took song request from People & than he took some questions & more song request. He took a Boy onto the stage & he sang Walking In Country with Keith. Than Keith took some more Questions & sang some more than he wished everybody a Happy Holoween.

According to information released today by the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum, Keith Urban’s We’re All for the Hall benefit concert has already netted in excess of $500,000. That number will continue to increase from additional corporate donations (not yet tabulated) and the planned online auction of a Taylor Swift guitar donated by the singer following her performance at the October 13 benefit.“As Keith said from the stage of the Sommet Center, this was ‘one of the greatest open-mike nights ever seen in Nashville’,” said Museum Director Kyle Young. “We’re All for the Hall not only set a new standard for fundraising and event coordination, it brought together an entire community and helped us to see just what can be done by individuals when there is collective passion for a cause. There is no question that this is a game changer for us as we work to preserve the history of country music and teach its cultural importance to an international audience.”“This was my hope,” said Vince Gill, who is president of the Museum’s Board of Officers and Trustees and the creator and leader of the Museum’s All for the Hall fundraising initiative. “I can’t really believe it happened. This is a big, big payday, and times are tough. We are in Buffalo NY for the last of the 2 Keith shows.I headed over to the Buses to meet up with a few Monkey Friends. Met Chris R. and headed for dinner than to the arena. This show My Mom decided to go to.Wanted to see Keith for the first time. It was me and my cousin sitting together,and Mom had her own seat 1 section behind us.This show it was Sugarland for the opening act. they played for 1 1/2 hrs. They are pretty good.I have seen them 4 times this tour. Than it was time for Keith to do his set.And boy were we ever ready.This would be Keith's last show for the US for this year. WOW did he ever give us a GREAT show. Keith played for 2 1/2 hrs instead of 2 hrs.Keith told us that this is going to be a loooooooooooooong night, so we better call the Babysitter and tell them you are gonna be a little late.He than announced that his wife, Mother & Father were all here tonight.

That was waaaaaaaaaaaaay to long.Me and my cousin got lost going to the Times Union Center,and the Center was right behind the Holiday Inn Express.But anyways went to pick up my Tickets at the Will Call window.Than we went back to the Hotel to get our Camera's and we got lost again.Shoulld of walked(LOL).Dum TomTom.So we finally got to the Hotel. We picked up our cameras,and headed back to the Times union Center for the show. We were going to get a shirt,but the line was to long, so we will get one in Buffalo. We were escorted to our seats, and OMG what seats.I couldn't believe how close we were to the stage.I knew they were 6 rows from the stage,but I thought it was on the right hand side on the arena but it ended up being in the pit.one of my Monkey friends saw me, and I went over to where she was. Opening Act: The opening act for this show was Sugarland.They were a wounderful opening act for Keith Urban.My cousin dosen"t like Sugarland,but she loved them,and thought they were great. FINALLY: The lights went down,and thumps were heard around the arena.The music stared, and the curtin was drawn down, and there he was.Keith Urban was FINALLY out behind the curtin. the CMA Awards nomination announcements on “Good Morning America,” CMT’s “Insider Special Edition: 2009 CMA Awards Nominations,” and Premiere Radio Networks, it was discovered that Brad Paisley and Keith Urban were inadvertently omitted from the list of final nominees for CMA Musical Event of the Year for “Start A Band.” The omission occurred when transferring information from the online ballot to the list of final nominees. “We take the integrity of the CMA Awards balloting very seriously,” said Tammy Genovese, CMA Chief Executive Officer. “And when an oversight like this occurs we commit ourselves to a thorough review, thoughtful and immediate correction, and complete disclosure and accountability to the artists and our industry. “I can assure CMA’s valued constituents that we have examined every detail of the ballot for other discrepancies and all other categories were correct as announced.” “Start A Band” will be added to the list of nominees for the final ballot and all previously announced nominees will remain on the list. “All of the nominees for Musical Event of the Year are deserving and in the interest of fairness will remain on the ballot for the final vote by our membership,” Genovese said. “We sincerely regret the omission of these two deserving artists from the list of nominees and apologize to Brad and Keith, and their representatives, for any confusion,” Genovese said. The additional nomination gives Paisley a total of seven nominations – the most of any artist nominated for the 2009 CMA Awards. Urban’s nomination count jumps from four to five.
